The term “operations security” was coined by the United States military during the Vietnam War, and is simply a process used to deny an adversary information that could compromise the secrecy and/or the operational security of a mission. Protecting critical and sensitive information is essential to protecting the success of your organization and your missions, and to protecting the lives of your colleagues. Hence, the very process of performing OPSEC is very important both for your organization, but also for you as an individual in everyday life.
